The Resistance is composed of pre-YoRHa Earth androids who have been fighting the Machine invasion long before the YoRHa forces arrived. Their leader is Anemone, who commands the resistance forces from a camp established in the ruins of the city. The Resistance works alongside YoRHa forces, fending off the Machines and supporting their operations on Earth. During the game's events, 2B and 9S are sent to clear machine threats for Anemone's Resistance forces. The Resistance operates from hub locations that contain shops selling various items, including consumables that recover health. Non-playable characters (NPCs) found throughout the world offer quest objectives to the player. The Resistance maintains a working relationship with Pascal, a machine who dislikes conflict and wishes for peace. They also interact with Devola and Popola, early androids who suffer discrimination from the actions of their model series. The Resistance represents the android population that remained on Earth rather than operating from the Bunker, the YoRHa reconnaissance base that orbits Earth.

In Their Own Story

The Resistance camp was quiet when 2B arrived, the morning light filtering through the broken windows of the old building. Anemone stood at the center, her posture weary but alert. She had been fighting this war longer than most YoRHa units had been operational. 'We've been holding the line here since before your kind dropped from the sky,' she said, not turning to face the newcomer. 'The Machines keep coming. They always keep coming.'

2B nodded, her gaze sweeping across the camp. Androids moved between makeshift shelters, tending wounds, maintaining weapons. A Resistance fighter nearby was speaking with a small machine — one of Pascal's followers, she realized — exchanging information about Machine movements. 'There's a route we need cleared,' Anemone continued, finally turning. 'If we can open it, we can push deeper into their territory. But we need YoRHa's firepower.'

2B's Pod hummed softly as it floated beside her. 'Mission parameters received,' it stated. 'Clearing operation for Resistance forces.'

Anemone managed a thin smile. 'Don't underestimate them. We've lost good people to those things.'
