The Black Box is a standard component installed in all YoRHa androids at production, not a unique artifact made for 2B or an emergency backup from the Bunker. It stores the android's own data, including memories and operational logs. After 2B's death, A2 acquires 2B's memories by accessing 2B's own Black Box (her core), but it is not a separate 'Black Box' construct. The Black Box is not required to unlock the final ending (Ending E); that ending is unlocked by completing specific side quests and making a choice in the credits sequence. The Black Box does not speak; any voice or messages heard are recordings or memories from the android, not the component itself.
